MEN
![]() We have a double pass to MEN at Auckland’s 4:20 to give away! MEN is a Brooklyn-based band and art/performance collective led by LE TIGRE’s JD Samson. Strange News and Proud Mary Club are excited to announce that queer, electro masters MEN will perform one show only in Auckland on February 23 at the intimate 4:20 nightclub with support from SPRING BREAK and FANNY BURNEY. Limited tickets are on sale to the public via Under The Radar. MEN focus on the energy of live performance and radical potential of dance music. Their music speaks of issues such as wartime economies, sexual compromise, and the demand for liberties through lyrical content and an inventive, high-energy stage show. The group began in 2007 with the DJ/production/remix team of LE TIGRE members JD Samson and Johanna Fateman. With LE TIGRE on hiatus, when the duo began to write new songs, it made sense to merge their efforts with JD's other project HIRSUTE (Michael O'Neill, JD Samson, Emily Roysdon and Ginger Brooks Takahashi). Michael and JD now comprise the core of MEN, with Johanna Fateman and artist Emily Roysdon contributing as writers, consultants, and producers. The band enjoys changing the shape of the project and collaborating every tour with new instrumentalists and visual elements. Last tour they were joined by Tami Hart of the band Making Friendz and this fall will be joined by percussionist Lee Free. MEN put out their debut record, 'Talk About Body' on IAMSOUND Records February 1st of 2011. The band have toured extensively all over the world, played Coachella 2011 and have supported both Peaches and Gossip, and will be supporting CSS for a full US tour this fall. Spring Break are the sexually intense duo comprised of Ryan McPhun (The Ruby Suns) and James Dansey (The Sneaks). Disco-rap, pure pop and short shorts ensure good times for everyone. Fanny Burney, is a New Zealander who has been based in Sydney for the last 13 years. As a DJ she knows no shame and loves to play the so-bad-its-good tunes from the funnest genres. She got into DJing to pay for art school nine years ago and held down a weekly residency for those years. Both the art and the DJing have worked out very well for her; art is her day-job; you may know her work from collaborations with Ladyhawke. THIS SHOW CELEBRATES ALL GENDERS AND SEXUALITIES.
